Sail Nantucket Regatta & Opera House Cup Regatta
Posted On: May 19, 2016

This is a message from the Corinthian Classic Yacht Regatta regarding other regattas in which you might be interested:

The Sail Nantucket Regatta, August 19-20, 2016, is restructured to better accommodate a wide range of big boats, including classic and spirit of tradition wooden yachts, fiberglass yachts, and other high-performance racing yachts.   One design classes will be offered if there are five or more boats in a class or with a unique rating – e.g., Twelve Metre, TP 52, or with an IRC or CIM rating. There will be two days of racing, with windward-leeward or triangle courses, appropriate to each division. Competitors in all divisions may race with or without a spinnaker. All yachts over 24’ LOA with a CRF or PHRF rating are welcome to compete. Sail Nantucket results will be included for those yachts competing in the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge.

The Opera House Cup Regatta, August 21, 2016, will continue to be a wooden boat regatta and part of the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge, but will be organized a little differently.   We recognize that the traditional fleet consists of two types of boats created for two quite different purposes: ocean going cruisers, intended not only to make good passages but also to keep their crews safe in offshore gales; and day racing boats, exquisite craft developed solely to create speed under sail in the controlled conditions of round the buoy racing. Therefore, we will integrate both Classic and Spirit of Tradition yachts into two divisions: Cruising Division and Day Racing Division. The winners of both the Cruising Division and Day Racing Division will be inscribed on the Cup. The OHC race will continue to be scored using CRF ratings and will also be scored for the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge.

Lower costs and more fun -- We recognize that it is difficult and expensive to come to Nantucket, so we’re trying to help. Here are some of the enhancements we’ve made for our competitors.

  • We reduced the entrance fees for both the Opera House Cup and the Sail Nantucket Regatta.

  • We will offer participants a limited number of free moorings for Thursday through Sunday nights, on a first-come basis.

  • Thursday, August 18th there will be an optional NRW Regatta Dinner to kick-off the fun, featuring a presentation by the America’s Cup official host, Tucker Thompson.

  • Friday, August 19th there will be a fun, casual picnic dinner with daily awards for Sail Nantucket skippers and crew. Two tickets to this event are included with registration.

  • Saturday, August 20th, following the Sail Nantucket Awards Ceremony, you can visit the elegant yachts on display at the Classic Yacht Exhibition at the Nantucket Boat Basin, where you can go aboard these special, historic craft which will be sailing in the Opera House Cup.   The OHC Skippers Party and late check-in will also be held at the Boat Basin.

  • Then, after Sunday's Opera House Cup race, the OHC Awards Party will be under the tents at Jetties Beach, with great food, raw bar and band, but for 2016 it will be exclusively for OHC sailors and guests. Two tickets are included with OHC registration.

Register now via these links -- The Notice of Race documents are posted and registration is now open for both the Opera House Cup and the Sail Nantucket Regatta.
